How the day unfolds
- Leave Shillelagh north along quiet country lanes, past the gates of Coollattin House — the Fitzwilliam family seat.
- Climb through the Coollattin plantation. Kilometres of wide Coillte forestry roads; watch for red squirrels and pine martens.
- The route traces a long-abandoned estate wall for almost a kilometre — an atmospheric stretch. Listen to our Stage 2 audio tour here.
- Cross the Derry River on the old stone bridge near Muskeagh.
- Final descent into Tinahely along farm lanes. Arrive in the Square. Stay: Madeline's Accommodation (Premium Partner). Dinner at Hanlon's; pint at the Bridge Inn.
