Terms of Service
Plain-English terms for using WalkWicklow.ie. Walking is a physical activity carried out at your own risk — the short version is please be careful out there, and treat everything on this site as guidance, not an instruction manual.
1. Use of the site
WalkWicklow.ie is provided for personal, non-commercial use. Content — walk notes, audio tour scripts, photography, itineraries — is the copyright of WalkWicklow.ie unless otherwise credited. You may share links and short quotations with attribution. You may not copy entire audio tour scripts or walk guides to your own site or commercial product without written permission.
2. Walking safety — read this
Walking, hiking and hillwalking carry inherent risk. Weather changes fast in the Wicklow Mountains. Trails can be slippery, muddy or impassable in bad conditions. Some routes on this site — including Lugnaquilla, the Spinc, Djouce and the full Wicklow Way — are mountain walks that require navigation skill, appropriate gear, and good judgement about weather.
All route information on this site is provided as best-effort guidance. Distances, timings, elevations and descriptions are approximate. Conditions change. The maintainers of WalkWicklow.ie accept no liability for injury, loss, damage, or inconvenience resulting from your decision to undertake any walk described here. You are responsible for your own safety. If in doubt, turn back.
If you are walking alone, always tell someone where you're going and when you plan to return. Carry a charged phone, adequate food and water, and appropriate clothing. In an emergency in the Wicklow Mountains, dial 112 and ask for Mountain Rescue.
3. Audio tours
Sample narration is played through your device's built-in text-to-speech. No payment is required for the sample version. When the professionally-narrated audio tours launch (target: May 2026), those will be a separately-purchased product with their own licence terms. You may not record, re-broadcast or re-sell any audio tour — sample or final.
4. Accommodation and event bookings
WalkWicklow.ie is a directory. When you book accommodation or event tickets through partner links on this site, your contract is with the partner (the accommodation property, Eventbrite, the event organiser). Payment, cancellation and refund terms are set by them. We receive no commission on accommodation bookings made directly with partners. Event links to Eventbrite may earn us a small affiliate commission at no extra cost to you.
5. Partner listings
Accommodation properties, restaurants and attractions listed on this site have given us permission to list them, or are publicly-promoted businesses where listing falls within normal editorial practice. Partner status does not constitute an endorsement beyond "we've included them because they serve walkers well." If you are a business owner and wish to be removed, email nicky@murphyfurniture.ie and we will action within 7 days.
6. Content accuracy
We put real work into checking historical, ecological and geographic claims. But some of the material — folklore, oral local tradition, disputed historical details — is described as such on the relevant page. If you spot an error, please email us and we will correct it. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any specific fact on any specific day.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by Irish law, WalkWicklow.ie and its operators disclaim all liability for damages arising from use of this site, including (without limitation) personal injury, loss of property, delay, cost of rescue, or consequential loss. If you disagree with this limitation, please do not use the site.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the business evolves (for example, when paid audio tours launch). The "last updated" date at the top will change. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts.
