Ireland's oldest long-distance walking trail, 132 km from Clonegal in south Wicklow to Marlay Park on the southern edge of Dublin. Seven walking days, seven pre-booked beds, one continuous arc across the Garden of Ireland.

The plan

Day 1 — Clonegal to Shillelagh (14 km)

  • Pick-up or bus from Dublin to Clonegal — we can arrange a partner taxi. Start walking from the Osborne's pub at 10am.
  • Gentle opener: country lanes, forest tracks, the Derry Valley. 4-5 hours.
  • Stay: Shillelagh village. Pub dinner at Coollattin Golf Club or the village's single pub.

Day 2 — Shillelagh to Tinahely (18 km)

  • The stage with the strongest audio tour on the whole Way — listen to the Stage 2 tour in your headphones as you walk.
  • Forest tracks, open farmland, the old Coollattin estate wall. 5-6 hours.
  • Stay: Madeline's Accommodation, Tinahely Town Square (Premium Partner). Dinner at Hanlon's or the Courthouse Arts Centre café. Pint at the Bridge Inn.

Day 3 — Tinahely to Moyne (17 km)

  • Climbs out of Tinahely into the Ballinglen hills. Open moorland. Views for miles. 5-6 hours.
  • Stay: Moyne village or a nearby B&B. We'll book.

Day 4 — Moyne to Glenmalure (22 km — the big one)

  • The longest and hardest stage. Climbs over the shoulder of Slieve Maan. Weather-dependent. 7-8 hours.
  • Stay: Glenmalure Lodge or a lodge B&B. Hot bath. Early dinner. Sleep.

Day 5 — Glenmalure to Glendalough (14 km)

  • The most scenic stage. Climbs Drumgoff pass, drops into Glendalough via the Lugduff ridge.
  • Stay: Glendalough area. Dinner at The Wicklow Heather.

Day 6 — Glendalough to Roundwood (17 km)

  • Over Paddock Hill, across Lough Dan, through the Ballinastoe boardwalk. The Djouce shoulder on your left for half the day.
  • Stay: Roundwood — the highest village in Ireland. Dinner at Byrne & Woods.

Day 7 — Roundwood to Marlay Park (20 km)

  • The final stage. Over Djouce itself (optional detour), across the Featherbeds, down into Dublin suburbs via Tibradden and Cruagh.
  • Finish line: Marlay Park, where the Way ends. A pint at the Marley Grange pub. A taxi to Dublin city. A deeply earned early night.
