Route & directions

How to walk it

Start at the small lay-by on the L1010 above Kilbride village in west Wicklow. The path is signposted with a small wooden marker. The climb is steep but short — about 2 km to the summit, with 220 m of ascent. The passage tomb is at the summit, marked by a circle of large kerbstones. The inner chamber is accessible through a low entrance — adults will need to crawl. Bring a head-torch. Allow 1.5 hours for the return walk.

Local tips

  • Bring a head-torch if you want to see inside the chamber
  • Boots required — the path is rough and boggy in places
  • No facilities — the nearest are in Blessington town (10 minutes' drive)
  • Don't disturb anything inside the tomb — it's a National Monument
  • Combine with the Blessington Greenway for a full day in west Wicklow
