Glenmalure near Rathdrum in south Wicklow is one of Wicklow's best-known glacial valleys, strongly linked with the 1580 Battle of Glenmalure — one of the most significant Gaelic victories against English forces in Ireland. A moderate 7–10 km valley walk follows forest roads, riverside tracks and quiet valley sections beside the Avonbeg River. Allow 2–3 hours.

How to walk it

Start near Glenmalure Lodge. The Glenmalure Valley Walk is approx. 7–10 km — a moderate valley walk following forest roads, riverside tracks and quiet valley sections. Allow 2–3 hours depending on route. Gravel tracks, woodland paths and uneven riverside ground.
