Route & directions

How to walk it

Start at the Upper Lake car park at Glendalough. Follow the white-arrow Spinc route up the wooden steps and along the boardwalk above the Upper Lake. At the southern end of the boardwalk, take the red-arrow Wicklow Way trail south over Mullacor. The descent into Glenmalure is steep and rough underfoot in places. The trail meets the valley road near the Glenmalure Lodge. Allow 5.5 hours at a steady pace. Linear walk — arrange transport from Glenmalure back to Glendalough.

Local tips

  • Linear walk — arrange a pickup or use the Glenmalure Lodge pre-booked taxi service
  • Full mountain gear: waterproofs, boots, map, compass, and food/water
  • Weather changes rapidly on Mullacor — check the forecast and turn back if visibility drops
  • Glenmalure Lodge at the end serves food until 9 pm in summer
  • Don't underestimate the descent — the final 3 km into Glenmalure is harder than the climb
