Glen of the Downs Wood
The Glen of the Downs Nature Reserve between Delgany and Newtownmountkennedy is an ancient woodland protected for its native forest since the 19th century. An easy-to-moderate 3–5 km woodland walk through native forest and hillside paths with elevated viewpoints over the wooded valley. Allow 1–1.5 hours.

How to walk it
Start at the Glen of the Downs Nature Reserve entrance between Delgany and Newtownmountkennedy. The Glen of the Downs Walk is approx. 3–5 km — an easy-to-moderate woodland walk through native forest and hillside paths. Allow 1–1.5 hours. Woodland trails, stepped sections and uneven forest ground.
Local tips
- Paths can be muddy after rain
- Watch for ferns, mosses and woodland plants
- Some sections include steps and steeper gradients
- Easily accessed from the N11
- Combine with Delgany or Greystones afterwards
