Dunlavin is a small market town in west Wicklow close to the Kildare border. It sits in gently rolling agricultural country at the edge of the Wicklow uplands, a transition zone between the open plains and the hill country to the east. The town has a strong local character and the surrounding farmland is quiet and largely undiscovered by visitors. Rathsallagh Country House, a well-regarded country hotel set in parkland a short distance from the town, is the area's best-known address.
