Where to stay in Tinahely on the Wicklow Way

Tinahely sits on the Wicklow Way between Stranakelly Cross and the Shillelagh forests — Stage 6 if you're walking north-to-south from Marlay Park, Stage 2 if you're heading the other way. Either direction, you've walked the better part of twenty kilometres, your feet hurt, and you're thinking about dinner before you're thinking about a bath. Here are your options.

Our Premium Partner: Madeline's Accommodation

Beautifully restored historic guesthouse right on Tinahely's Town Square — three minutes from the Way as it passes through the village. Double, twin and small-double rooms, all with private bathrooms. Self-service keypad entry means you don't have to wrestle muddy boots through a reception. Note: Madeline's is room-only — see the breakfast section below for where to eat in the morning. Two minutes' walk to O'Connor's Bar & Lounge, Murphy's Hotel and the Bridge Inn. Book direct.

The village — 700 m from the trail-head

Tinahely is small but well-served: a post office, The Farm Shop (groceries, deli, takeaway food), a pharmacy, three pubs, a handful of cafés and a butcher. If you've forgotten anything, you can buy it here before heading on to the next leg of the Way.

Dinner options

O'Connor's Bar & Lounge (proper pub food, big portions), Murphy's Hotel (full dinner menu, often the best bet for a sit-down meal), the Bridge Inn (pints and a simpler pub menu), and — if you want to drive — the Brook Lodge at Macreddin is roughly twenty-five to thirty minutes away and does one of the best dinners in Ireland.

Breakfast before you walk on

Madeline's is room-only and does not serve breakfast. Two strong options nearby:

  • D'Lish café on the Square — opens 9 am Monday to Saturday, closed Sundays. Coffee, pastries, hot breakfast.
  • The Farm Shop — open earlier than D'Lish, with hot rolls, pastries and made-to-order breakfast baps you can grab and walk with.

What to do with an extra day

Stay two nights and walk Tomnafinogue Woods (fifteen minutes away), the Railway Walk (directly from the village), or the Kyle Loop. Or just sit in the Square with a coffee and watch life roll through.
