7 buggy-friendly Wicklow walks (and the ice-cream stops we rate)

Wicklow has the Garden of Ireland nickname for a reason — and a lot of it is walkable with a buggy and a three-year-old in rainboots. These seven walks have flat surfaces, short distances, and a guaranteed ice cream within twenty minutes of the finish.

The Railway Walk, Tinahely

Six kilometres return on the flat old railway trackbed. Pushchair-friendly the whole way. Ice cream at the Bridge Café on the Square.

Avondale Forest Park

Formal paths through the grounds of Charles Stewart Parnell's home. Beyond the Trees treetop walk is a huge kid-pleaser (though there are stairs).

Powerscourt Waterfall

Short paved path to Ireland's highest waterfall. Accessible. Avoca Kilmacanogue fifteen minutes away for ice cream.

The Meeting of the Waters, Avoca

Thomas Moore's song location. Ten-minute stroll with picnic benches. Avoca Handweavers café nearby — home-made ice cream.

Lough Dan loop, Roundwood

Quiet lakeside track. Dogs on leads. Finish at The Roundwood Inn or Byrne & Woods.

Glendalough Upper Lake path

Flat path along the south shore of the Upper Lake. Accessible most of the way. The Glendalough Green café at the end.

Bray seafront promenade

Not a country walk but a proper mile of paved sea-front. Dolphins sometimes. The Happy Pear and a dozen ice-cream shops at either end.
