Avoca Handweavers

Ireland's oldest surviving working woollen mill, founded in 1723. The Avoca brand is now a nationwide food and homewares empire — but the original weaving mill and flagship store are still right here in the village of Avoca.

The mill

Free guided tours of the working weaving floor — the looms still produce throws, rugs and scarves on 18th- and 19th-century machinery. Watch warping, weaving and finishing; the wool smells and sounds are authentic (because it's still a real mill, not a museum reconstruction).

Shopping & food

The Avoca store sells the full current range — food, cosmetics, homewares, clothes — with some exclusives only available at the mill. The café serves the famous Avoca brown bread and soups. Free entry to shop and café; mill tour is also free.

Hours

Open 9:30am–5pm (closes at 6pm in summer). Mill tours roughly hourly. No booking needed for individuals; groups should ring ahead.
